]]>This raptor caused a debate between Guy and I. It was big like a eagle, but we only have two eagles in north America. Clearly not a eagle.
Now that leaves Hawks. BUT what a big hawk ! Now I advertised this as a Ferruginous Hawk, the largest hawk in North America but is it actually the smaller Rough Legged Hawk?
Because it was so foggy in the Ochoco Mountains it not only gave my photographs that painting look, but it was hard to keep my camera lens dry.

]]>I like how the young Bald Eagles have the brown still in the white head and tail feathers. Here in Jefferson County Oregon we have breeding Eagles thus we get to enjoy seeing their young.
Size is one way I tell the difference between young Bald and Golden Eagles. Golden Eagles being the largest of the Eagles here in America. We have both here.
Not all young Bald Eagles have so much white, so this is a older youngster.

]]>This is a Northern Harrier , one of the pair we have living within town limits. They hunt the many fields and pastures we have. Curious as to what I was doing, he must of got tired and this is where he landed allowing me to get several shots, before another bird ran him off. He was 2' tall or so.

]]>Eagles are making a big come back in numbers. The look and the behavior of this eagle makes me think this is a young eagle.
In places like Paulina Oregon these bird perches have been placed upon the electrical lines for the eagles and other birds to perch on as they hunt the farms and ranches.
When driving through Central Oregon pay attention, you may just see a eagle !

]]>We can find these birds year round here in Jefferson County Oregon.
Since these are carnivorous birds I placed them here with the birds of prey even though when we think of birds of prey we usually do not think of these aquatic birds here in the High Desert.

With that said this shot I really was not going to show because frankly, this hawk was to quick for me and I did not pull back my lens quick enough to capture this bird of prey in the full frame. However, as I show my wildlife photography I have learned it is not up to me to decide what folks like. I just capture what I see.

Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle

]]>This photograph is of a bald eagle and a golden eagle. The bald eagle was not the only one, there is another bald eagle out of the frame to the right. Also there was another pair of more mature bald eagles observed in the canyon this day.
This young bald eagle and the other one were doing their best to run off this bigger golden eagle out of the territory. It was quite the show and why I hiked as close as I dared to get this series of shots.
